Society’s not broken…it was just my view

BrianaRecently my best friends 6-year-old daughter was diagnosed with a stage 4 wilms tumor. Both parents had to take time off work to help their daughter battle this disease that left a feeling of helplessness as a parent. They were starting to feel some financial pain as they have been off work since the beginning of September. We decided to start a Gofundme campaign to help out and raise some funds to ease some of the financial pain for them so they could concentrate on the important things.

We did not tell them we were doing this and wanted to keep it as a surprise for as long as we could. We also did not know how much they needed, so we kind of picked a number out of a hat and posted the campaign. We were completely dumbfounded when we saw the response to the campaign from friends, family, workplaces and some complete strangers. The goal of $5000 was hit in just 2.5 days and over the next few days the campaign became over funded by almost 50%.

When this campaign was posted, my view of society was that it was broken. I just did not feel that people wanted to help other people in the world today. The response to this campaign from everyone changed my perception of society for the better. I no longer feel that society is completely broken and I am starting to see the good side of things.

I would personally like to thank everyone who donated to this campaign and shared it. Without your support this could not have happened!

Hopefully this post can help alter someone else’s view of society as mine was completely distorted. If you would like to read more about the campaign, click this link or see the box below:
